NIX Grandvalira Andorra NIX Grandvalira Andorra NIX Grandvalira Andorra

NIX, we are snow people

NIX (snow in Latin) is an audiovisual journey through the Pyrenees of Andorra that explores the connection between snow and the land through human stories. Presented by Grandvalira Resorts and directed by the Andorran production company Citric, this film evokes the purest and most authentic essence of mountain life through six chapters that portray different ways of living winter.

NIX, exploring the bond between humans and the mountain

The film begins at the moment when farmers and herders must adapt to the arrival of the first snowflakes. And once winter has arrived, the people of snow live the mountain to the fullest: the ascent of the country’s highest peak at dawn, a ski touring outing among friends, the thrill of skiing down the wildest couloirs, the challenge of climbing a frozen waterfall, or the quest for balance between two peaks on a highline.

NIX was born from the desire to connect with all those who love the mountains, the snow, and the Pyrenees. With an honest and passionate perspective, it recalls the purest essence and the beauty of Andorra’s unique natural environment — a country of people of snow.

Each chapter, a reflection of who we are

  1. Nasci. We are people of snow.
Andorra is a country of snow, but also of a strong agricultural and livestock tradition. The ancestors knew that with the arrival of the cold and the first snowfalls, it was time to bring the cattle down from the mountain to shelter them for the winter.
In this first chapter, NIX focuses on a tradition that has endured through time, following Àlex and Andreu Gaspà, father and son from the Saboyano house in Ordino, who lead their cows from Segudet down to the village of Ordino on a snowy day.

  2. Vincere. First, the summit is dreamed.
Former Freeride World Tour (FWT) rider Dani Fornell and mountain guide Sergi Flamand prepare to climb Andorra’s highest mountain, the Comapedrosa peak. They first ascend to the Joan Canut refuge to wait for the right moment to tackle the summit at night and reach it at dawn. A major challenge with a taste of victory that culminates in the thrill of the descent.
The chapter also shows the adrenaline of skiing down Andorra’s endless couloirs and peaks covered in fresh snow, as well as heliskiing activity. It features several freeride enthusiasts and mountain guides: Àlex Meffre, David Naudi, Elie Lagarde, Joan Aracil (FWT rider), Joel Albaladejo, Kílian Vidal, Nicolas Bordes, and Robert Lindsay

  3. In Extremis. The limit reveals the truth.
The mountain takes on infinite forms. Snow dresses it in winter, but when extreme cold arrives, ice covers its texture like a second skin. In this chapter, guide Jose Quiroga completes an ice climb in the Coma del Forat with Alex Blasco, an enthusiast of this discipline.

  4. Libertas. Freedom that inspires, wisdom that guides.
Nani Duró has summited three eight-thousanders and took part in the first Andorran expedition to Everest. Although she has left behind the most intense phase of climbing the world’s highest peaks, she hasn’t abandoned the mountains and continues to experience them with the same passion.
Together with mountain guide Montserrat Arderiu, they share a ski touring trip to the Pessons peak (2,862 m).

  5. Pax. The path is born from each step.
Moisés Castro is one of those people who enjoys challenges at height, almost to the point of needing them to feel alive. His favorite way to face them is through highlining.
The chosen setting for this challenge is the Envalira peak, from where he connects with the Negre d’Envalira peak, under the light of the full moon.

  6. Legatum. Stories are our legacy.
All the protagonists come together to share their experiences and memories connected to the snow.
